About Avg. Instinct
A touring musician, songwriter, record producer and even the lead A&R at a prominent Electronic Dance Music label once upon a time...these are just a few of the titles that Dylan Heidt has had the privilege of calling his own.
But behind the nights on the road that never seemed to end, a catalogue of songwriting and production credits that have amassed well over 1,000,000 streams and the chart-topping singles that he had signed during his time as an A&R at one of the biggest Electronic Dance Music labels in the world...something didn't feel quite right.
"I think from the outside looking in, I was living the dream. Everything that I had told everyone that I was going to do from the time I was a teenager until I was in my mid-twenties, I actually went out and accomplished."
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and stopped the world in its tracks, Heidt found himself (like so many others) with a lot of free time on his hands. "It was great until it wasn't. Not only was I dealing with my professional life being upended, but I also went through some really gnarly personal battles during that time too. By the time that the world had started to open back up, I was almost completely checked out."
Realizing that he no longer wished to play as large of a role within music as he once had, Heidt stepped back and again found himself with a surplus of free time on his hands. "The first thing I did was quit drinking alcohol. I was self-aware enough to know that the majority of my problems either stemmed from my drinking, or were only being exacerbated by my going out and partying every night, so I knew that it had to go."
Having committed himself completely to the idea of this new life that he had envisioned for himself, Heidt soon found himself back in the gym everyday and furthering his education in areas of his life that had long been neglected. "The first thing I did was get certified as a Holistic Health and Wellness coach. From there I obtained my certification as a Recovery Specialist and that's been my main area of focus since late 2023."
As Heidt continues to navigate the world of Recovery Coaching, he has also taken on the challenge of becoming an NCSF Certified Personal Trainer and launched Avg. Instinct, a project that he says is "for everyone else, as much as it is me." "I want Avg. Instinct to become a place where creatives from every walk of life can convene and share ideas, freely, and without judgement. Obviously, it is my personal brand at the end of the day, but I know it has the potential to be much more than that as well."
